Flower Mound Real Estate

There are almost as many legends, interpretations, and stories, often contradictory, concerning "The Mound" (aka Flower Mound) as there are bluebonnets in Texas. The very few unchallenged facts are that The Town of Flower Mound derived its name from the mound that sits 650 feet above sea level. Texas' eminent historian, the late A.C. Greene, believes the name, Flower Mound, was given to the rise in the 1840s because of an unusual amount of wild flowers that grew on it.

This area was part of the great American Black Land Prairie that ran from Canada to the Rio Grande and from the Rockies to the Mississippi. Because the early pioneer settlers used The Mound as a hay meadow and never plowed, the wild flowers were conspicuously abundant in wet springs. However, over 175 species of wildflowers and native prairie grasses flourish throughout the year on The Mound.

Today, the city of Flower Mound is one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Flower Mound is located between Lake Grapevine and Lake Lewisville and blessed with heavily wooded hills, panoramic views, and an abundance of creeks and shorelines, offering unlimited recreational and leisure activities. Home to two nationally recognized golf courses, Tour 18 and Bridlewood, and only minutes from Grapevine Mills Mall, Parker Square Shopping Center, Bass Pro Outdoor World, and the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, Flower Mound offers residents and visitors numerous entertainment options. The Town was recently ranked on BusinessWeek.com's list of the Top 25 Best Affordable United States Suburbs.

Residents of Flower Mound enjoy a low tax rate, an outstanding school system, and safe neighborhoods. The homes here range from one- and two-story brick traditional floorplans to grand, magnificent mansions with golf course views.

The majority of Flower Mound is served by the Lewisville Independent School District. LISD encompasses 130 square miles and serves nine communities. Student achievement on the Texas Assessment of Acknowledge and Skills (TAKS) for 2004-05 indicated mastery levels at 95% in applicable test areas including reading, mathematics, writing, and science. 84% of students continue on to college or advanced training with 17 colleges and universities and 15 Associate of Arts Campuses in close proximity to Flower Mound.
