Highland Park Real Estate

Indian battles, Texas Rangers, and a "creek with all the turtles" depict Highland Park in 1837, and survivors of this era became the first residents of the city. A year later, an old Caddo Indian trace was surveyed by the Republic of Texas to become part of a national central road to run north from Austin to the Red River. Also used as a segment of the old Shawnee Trail for cattle drives to Missouri, today that road is known as Preston Road, the first paved street in Highland Park and one of the first major highways in the city. In 1913, the city was incorporated by a vote of its residents and the evolvement of present day Highland Park began.

Each spring, the city's parks explode with spring color with the annual azalea blooms. Over 8,000 azaleas blossom during the last weeks of March and the first weeks of April. Fourteen parks are sprinkled throughout the city and a community swimming pool is located on Lexington Avenue in Davis Park. Admission to the pool is limited to the residents of Highland Park.

Most of the city is served by the highly-coveted Highland Park Independent School District. A small portion of Highland Park is zoned to the Dallas Independent School District, however. DISD schools that serve this area include Maple Lawn Elementary School, Rusk Middle School, and North Dallas High School. Achievement and excellence are the norm for the kids in this neighborhood. In 2005, 13 Highland Park High School students were named 2006 National Merit Finalists. 39 students were named Commended Students and Highland Park High School students average composite SAT score was 1194; 592 on verbal and 602 on math.

Homes in this elite and elegant neighborhood are dominated by large, majestic mansions, and price tags for the privileged address are in the millions. Since the area has been established (and inhabited) for quite some time, tree-filled lots are commonplace. The city of Highland Park is also home to the Highland Park Village which houses exclusive, top-brow retail shops such as Ralph Lauren, Harold's, Beretta Gallery, and more.
