Somewhere along the line, the railroad line that is, the town's name changed. Most accounts agree that a homesick Scottish train engineer for the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe railway renamed the town after a favored location in his homeland. The name stuck.
Today, Midlothian is known for its unique location just south of Joe Pool Lake and for its proximity to Arlington, home of the outdoor theme park. Midlothian is also home to three of the largest cement factories in the United States, which serve as a prime economic engine.
