Texas Christian University (TCU) Real Estate

Fort Worth is not really considered a "college town," but Texas Christian University (TCU) hangs its (cowboy) hat in the middle of the city. Surrounded by older, established homes, the TCU neighborhood has an eclectic blend of smaller, fixer-uppers to traditional, large-columned, colonial-style estates suiting the country club set.

Several neighborhoods make up the TCU area including Ryan Place, Park Hill, Overton Park, Berkley Place, Bluebonnet Hills, and Mistletoe Heights.

Ryan Place is named after its first residents, developer John C. Ryan and his wife, Elizabeth Willing Ryan. Their vision of an exclusive homestead was realized with the creation of this neighborhood with entrance gates on the east and west ends of Elizabeth Boulevard. Stately homes dominated the avenue, but with the advent of the Great Depression, Ryan Place began to decline and the gates were replaced with wider roads. Today, Elizabeth Boulevard is in the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood has tree-lined streets, old-fashioned street lights, and large homes that range in style from Prairie to Mediterranean.

The Park Hill neighborhood overlooks the Fort Worth Zoo and parts of Forest Park. The homes here include Spanish and Tudor Revival architectural styles. Many of the offerings are two stories, and some even have basements (something unheard of in this part of the country!). Located along the Trinity River, you'll find the Overton Park and West Woods neighborhoods of the TCU area. Homes here resemble the ranch styles of the 1950s. Many are two-story and surrounded by tall trees.

Overlooking the Trinity River and up on the bluffs is Mistletoe Heights. This bustling and active neighborhood has been known for its many holiday events including the annual Fourth of July Parade, Halloween Parties, Christmas Caroling, and more. The homes range from small cottages to large mansions, and many have basements and servants quarters.

The Berkeley Place neighborhood was initially part of the 1850 Mexican Government's Peters Colony. Boasting the most active homeowner's association in the city with annual events such as an end of the school year "Berkeley Bash," a fall scarecrow contest, and "yard of the month" awards. Developed in the 1930s, Bluebonnet Hills has quaint bungalow flats along with rustic Tudor cottages.

The campus of Texas Christian University is located in the middle of this area of Fort Worth, but located just down the road is the University Park Village featuring Gap, Barnes & Noble, Pottery Barn, Victoria's Secret, Harold's, and Williams-Sonoma. The Fort Worth Zoo, Log Cabin Village, and Trinity Park are all located in this neighborhood and provide family-oriented activities and touristy opportunities for visiting folks.
