Traveling in and out of the Oak Lawn neighborhood is easy with Central Expressway (I-75) to the east, and Woodall Rodgers Freeway (State Highway Spur 366) to the south. The DART light-rail lines service several areas near the Oak Lawn area.

Located just north of downtown and the Arts District, the Oak Lawn-Uptown neighborhood has been compared to Boston's Back Bay or New York's Soho. With a varied selection of high-rise condos, older homes, townhomes, and apartments, Oak Lawn offers real estate with spectacular views, park settings, and estate living, all within just minutes of downtown Dallas.

Oak Lawn's public schools are part of the Dallas Independent School District. The William B. Travis/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted is located near McKinney Avenue and Oak Grove Avenue. Uptown Dallas High School, a 4A school, is located in the Cityplace neighborhood at McKinney Avenue and West Haskell Avenue. There is no shortage of interesting restaurants, bars, clubs, and cultural organizations located in Uptown. Coupled with being in the middle of the Dallas Design District, Oak Lawn attracts residents with a flare and interest in the arts.
